Handicap & Presidents Cup 2021
Rotorua Rod and Gun Club
100 Target Handicap Sporting & Presidents Cup 100 Target Sporting – 14th/15th August
Rotorua Rod and Gun Club welcomed 108 keen entrants who threw their hand in the ring for the Handicap 100 Targets shooting. With perfect conditions on the grounds, and a variety of targets to suit everyone, the handicap format proved a great opportunity for all grades to compete against each other. Competition was fierce and many great scores were brought in over the day. From 108 entries, 78 competitors met their handicap to make it through to the first round of shoot-offs. With shoot-off targets becoming progressively harder, and shooters slowly dropping their handicap advantage, 32 made it through to the second round.
The last man standing shoot off saw the top 13 competitors put on a spectacular show for the crowd of onlookers throughout the afternoon. With light conditions declining quickly and the last remaining participants battling increasingly difficult targets, the final results started coming through in rapid fashion. At the end of the shoot-off, Sub-Junior Vinnie Holmes pulled through with the win, amazingly still with one handicap target up his sleeve. Shaun Begovich 2nd, Jeff Niblett 3rd and young local Rotorua shooter Logan Gaskill coming in 4th.
Sunday greeted us with a frosty morning and clear sky, 105 entrants rolled in for the prestigious Presidents Cup. Shooters were put through their paces with a tough set of fields making great use of the rolling country the Rotorua Club grounds have to offer.
Mark Vessey successfully defended the Presidents Cup for the third year running with an impressive 94. Following a tough shoot-off with Willim Tannock, Brian Deadman was 1st AA Grade on 92. It was great to see our young entrants coming through with fantastic results, our juniors and sub-juniors also won the following grade placings: Graham Welch 1st A Grade on 90, Vinnie Holmes 1st B Grade with 81 and Nikau Cronin 1st C Grade with 74. It was great to see a good number of juniors enter both days and coming out the other side with fantastic results,
taking most podium positions in B and C grades.
Rotorua Rod and Gun Club would like to extend a huge thank you to Kilwell Sports and Winchester for sponsoring both days, everyone who helped make the weekend a success and to all the shooters who attended, we look forward to having you all back next year.
